Hard drive:
40-80 GB hard drive is more than sufficient unless you plan to generate mass amounts of music or data files or you prefer to install more than one suite like Microsoft Office.

Larger screens or wide screens result in heavier laptops and are more bulky but do offer a more comfortable experience whether you are surfing the net or watching movies.

Screen Viewing:

An anti-glare feature is really beneficial when you do not prefer to have part of your screen invisible due to a light source. Keyboard:

One of the more significant aspects of buying a laptop, for me anyway, is the keyboard. Mainly that the keyboard should be full size or it would take some time to adjust.

TIP: Look for the % of full size when looking at the keyboard features of a laptop.

Mouse Options:

Option 1: is a touch screen, which is controlled with finger movements on a pad.
Option 2: is a knob feature that lets you control the mouse by moving the finger in only one spot. This feature is harder to adjust and unless you have a preference acquire the touch panel.
Option 3: Best acquire both a touch screen and knob on your laptop.
TIP: You could always hook up a standard mouse to your laptop.

Ports:
Simply put a port is a specialized outlet on the back of a computer to which a plug or cable connects. (If you'd read the techie definition you would have passed out by now).
The more ports you have the more variety you would have.

An Ethernet Port for wired Internet connection.

Headphone and microphone ports.

Other ports include:

FireWire port for iPod connections.

S-video port for video output.

Printer port for printers.

PC card slots
(card bus), which offer a large variety of functions. You could usually buy a PC card to replace any type of port.

Audio:

Media Centers have higher quality speakers built-in. Notebooks that save weight and space would have small speakers which gives just an OK sound quality and quiet music.

Video/Graphics:

This is significant for playing and editing movies and is crucial for 3D gaming. Dedicated memory usually comes with a graphics card (ATI Radeon, GeForce, etc...) and has its own memory in MB which includes 32MB, 64MB, and 128MB.

TIP: If video/gaming is significant to you pick the highest one you could afford.

TIP: To acquire an idea of what memory you might need you could refer to the back of your games or media software CD-case or manual to see the "system requirements" for the video memory requirements.

Virus Security: Viruses and spyware are just as dangerous on a laptop as a desktop computer. Good anti-virus and spyware software is essential to the health of your computer and data.

Laptop Security: as laptops are portable and mobile, security is significant to protect your laptop and data from theft. A variety of methods are available including cables and biometric fingerprint readers.

The Dell Xps M1530 Laptop Computer Is A Best Seller What's It's Pros And Cons Though?

The Dell XPS M1530 laptop is indeed a top seller at the moment and with good reason. The specifications of this laptop are quite something but is it really deserving of the top spot? What are the pros and cons of such a laptop as the M1530?

I do not know about you but when I need to hear information regarding an item I am interested in buying, I prefer unbiased information full of facts both good and bad.

Let me first just reel off some of the main specifications - 2.2Ghz, Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 Dual Core Mobile Processor, 4G Memory, 320GB Drive, 9 cell Battery. If you are new to the laptop world, 320GB is the storage capacity where you would store all your information and applications. 320GB is a large amount of storage. As an example, on just 1GB you could store about 300 songs.

Being a laptop, you might be out and about with it once in a while, well the battery would last an easy 4 hours for you on full charge. I had one laptop just a year ago which lasted only 1 single hour!

The Vista operating system is really fast while the laptop itself boots up in no time so you could acquire to use the 1 inch thin beauty with a 15.4 inch panel straight away, no putting the kettle on while you wait.

Some previous laptops were unable to run all applications but with the XPS M1530, no problem. And if watching DVD's is your thing, then you would have stunning graphics and display using a 1440x900 resolution which is higher than the normal 1280x800 for a 15.4-inch panel. Just one thing which I believe needs to be pointed out is that the resolution being 1440x900 does cause a slight glare on the screen when in use outside. This may not be a factor for you but I mention it for your information.

You would not need to buy a webcam for this laptop by the way, it's already built in and ready for use immediately. So, in a nutshell you could see the Dell XPS M1530 is stunningly superb and if you ask around, or do your own research you would check that the feedback is pretty much the same. If there are any cons I would say that the slightly high price may put some off, as might the glare on the screen when in use outdoors so please bear those factors in mind.

If you do purchase the Dell XPS M1530, it's highly unlikely you would have any regrets at all.

Where Could I Acquire The Finest College Laptop?

When shopping for the best college laptop, one always asks "Where do I go to purchase one? There are many places to go, in person or even on-line. I would talk about both of these options here in this article.

As for going to the usual brick and mortar type establishments, there are many to choose from. One of the things that you need to ask is, "What brand do I prefer"? You could look in the phone book for the nearest Gateway store in you area. They have quite a few, but there's not one in every city. If you are one of the people that does have one in their hometown, then you should check them out. They have every model that they make in these store and with their well trained staff you would be taken care of.

Another one of your options could be going to the nearest Dell outlet, but then again there's not one in every city. I myself have been in one in New York City and I found it really hard to walk out of there with just one item and when I decided on the one that I preferred it was difficult not to walk out of there with every single accessory that they offered me.

Most likely you would be happier shopping on line for the laptop of your option as you could do it from the comfort of your own home. This is how I do most of my purchases for such items. Shopping this way would assist avoid the salesmen type sales pitches that would come your way when go to the actual store.

Desktop Or Laptop Computer - Which One You Need

You are in the market for a computer, but you just aren't sure which type you prefer to acquire. Maybe you are replacing an old desktop that is now a dinosaur and is way too slow to do much of anything online. Do you prefer another desktop? Or are you maybe looking for the mobility and freedom you would receive from owning a laptop?

Which is best? It's not as easy as it use to be to choose between the two. In days of past laptops use to be much slower than their desktop brothers. But now you could acquire laptops that are quick and at times perhaps faster than a desktop. Another problem use to be the amount of hard disk space that was available. In desktops you never really had to worry. The amount you got for storage was pretty much equivalent to the amount of money you preferred to spend on the desktop. Laptops although in the past were limited to a smaller amount of storage space no matter how much you spent on one.

Another problem was the picture of a desktop monitor was really good, not always sharp, but much nicer than what you would receive on an older laptop computer. Plus back a few years laptops weighed more than they do now. Making them easier to carry about, but still cumbersome none the less.

Now you have so many different options in desktops and laptops it's at times really a hard decision. Laptop prices have come down also in the last few years compared to what they use to be. Now you could actually buy a laptop for cheaper than some desktop computer models. The storage space on the hard drive is higher, than than and in fact as high as desktops are now. The picture rivals those monitors you could purchase with a desktop. Also the weight is much less sometimes weighing in as little as three pounds. So really the past reasons for not acquiring a laptop are not around any longer.

Desktops have also made great strides over the years, you have a option of monitors between the CRT and LCD, and one gives you a better picture that is sharp, which the other gives you more colors. The hard drive storage is at times tremendous, depending again on how much you prefer to spend. They now have CD burring drives in every computer that is sold, and some have DVD burning drives too. You could acquire a really decent computer for around $400 to $500 now and have a fast machine with good storage capability.

Of course you also have flash drives and external hard drives that you could store your information on, and a lot of these are not really expensive. So storage isn't as big of a deal as it use to be.

Really though the biggest decision is do you prefer to have a computer that you could take along with you? Or do you not need that mobility available? Which ever way you choose to go, be sure to research your options and acquire the one that offers you the most for the amount of money that you spend.

Advantages Of A Laptop Computer For Home Business

Laptops are frequently the first type of computer that anxious buyers look into. They are small and slick looking usualy light machines for the most part. Laptop computers have all the ability and function of a full desktop on a smaller scale. Their size limit's the amount of memory they could handle but laptop computers are still really powerful machines. Today laptops could be just as useful as desktop pc's. In today's busy society they fit into most people's daily lifestyles perfectly for three reasons. The top two reasons that most people use laptop computers are mobility and space efficiency. However, the benefits certainly do not stop there.

Mobility

In today's technology-reliant world having a computer is pretty much mandatory. Whether your laptop computer is a brand new Compaq Presario or a Dell, chances are you carry it with youand use it constantly. The mobility of laptops and notebooks allows for their users to have their significant files at hand as well as the means to update those files and copy them for others to use. With the advent of wireless technology a Compaq laptop combined with Compaq wireless makes for an unstoppable media and work outlet. A flashdrive could make file transfers easy and would support the mobillity of your laptop.

This ease of mobility would serve for many different people, including those that own their own business. Business people would love the appeal of being able to work on commutes and trips. Students would have the advantage of being able to take notes in class as well as have their personal computer with them for weekend jaunts to the homestead. People who work at home doing telecommuting jobs would be able to leave the house for a cup of coffee and a change of scenery without losing any work time.

Space Efficient

Laptop computers are much smaller than a desktop computer. This being the case it is perfect for the person who does not have much room or just prefers a less cluttered working area than the desktop affords. College students who live in dorms benefit greatly from this as they have limited work space and frequently need to use desk space for other purposes than schoolwork. People who live in smaller apartments or homes could also benefit from the small size as any space that is available could become a work space. The small size is also a plus in shared spaces as it makes it easy to store. It could be set on a shelf when not in use leaving space for tables and desks to be repurposed. Also it could really easily unhooked and locked up for safe keeping when not needed for work or play. Although a laptop may not be ideal for everyone as they are frequently the right option for a variety of people. From college students, to busy professionals, to work at home moms the laptop computer could ecome an invaluable asset to their everyday lives. It could certainly make your home business easier to operate if you have a handy laptop to take everywhere you go!

How Rapidly Mobile Learning Has Progressed In Five Short Years!

The first mobile learning workshop took place in Birmingham, UK in 2002 and the 6th International Mobile Learning Conference just concluded in Melbourne Australia. In five really short years we have gone from 'playing' with toys to planning the future or our infrastructure to accommodate mobile delivery in all its forms...

I have been involved in mobile learning as 2003 and it is interesting to reflect on the way in which it has grown and been taken up over what is really quite a short time. As a person who has worked hard to introduce mobile learning I am really aware that the reaction to my efforts has moved from "what on earth are you on about?" to "please come and assist us acquire it happening!".

For those who are asking the question, mobile learning is the delivery of teaching and learning by means of portable, handheld or mobile devices as a part of the overall mix in the way in which teachers and students interact. But like all new concepts there is a flow in the evolution and reflecting on each of the mobile learning conferences I have mapped it as follows:

2003 - mLearn in London:

The theme was 'New Possibilities' and we looked at mobile phones and some personal digital assistants (PDAs). We talked about issues like navigation on such small devices and texting and some of the games that already existed on mobile phones. We also started talking about knowledge management and the types of learning that might apply.

The state of mobile learning was best summed up at the time by John Traxler who is currently at Wolverhampton University in the UK:

"mobile learning is at a stage of small scale projects working to extablish aspects of techninal feasibility in specific educational settings"

2004 - mLearn in Rome:

Holding a conference dealing with leading edge technology in a 12th century castle in Rome was an interesting experience!

The theme this time was "The Potential is Significant" and we started to discuss shifts in pedagogy, the impacts of using portable devices and usability of the digital learning materials that were being developed. We were starting to see the newer smart phones and wireless was starting to appear in some places which would immediately expand the concept of mobility.

We were now talking about using PDAs and mobile phones for delivery of materials in a way that suited different learning styles, in context and overcoming some of the earlier barriers.

2005 - mLearn in Cape Town:

The theme "Learning is in your hands" was particularly appropriate in a country where internet coverage is minimal but mobile phone coverage is almost total!

At this conference we started to hear about convergence and mobile content management. We looked at practical examples of how people were rolling out mobile learning to larger groups and organisations and we started to talk about the strategies required for teacher training and student learning support by means of and for these technologies. Wireless was now available and expected.

We were now really seeing how mobile technology had the potential to break down the barriers of location and time.

2006 - mLearn in Banff:

OK, so we did manage to go from one great location to another but we are supposed to be mobile and learning - right?

The theme in Canada was "Across cultures and generations" and in context of the then small but growing social computing revolution this theme picked up on the way in which communications technology was breaking all barriers for those who preferred to stay in touch.

We heard about the $100 laptop and the desire to see every child with a laptop. We talked about digital libraries where every book was being converted to digital format and hence accessible anywhere on any device. We talked more seriously about audio as part of teaching material mix and explored the evry increasing means by which delivery could take place and the ever increasing variety of devices that offered mobility.

We started to understand the 'Net Generation' who have hypertext minds and who approach learning in a totally different way to those who left school a longer time ago!

This conference opened our eyes to the way in which exploring mobility was shrinking the world and making access to learning a reality for anyone from anywhere.

2007 - mLearn in Melbourne:

The theme we chose for this conference was "Making the Connections" and connectivity was certainly the flavour of the conference!

Even before the first keynote speaker had finished her comments and the reaction to those comments was being blogged, twittered, ninged, wikied and otherwise posted into cyberspace! Speakers were asked questions relayed through attending delegates from places all over the world.

We explored infrastructure issues and we talked extensively about pedagogy incorporating technology and how the devices themselves are now evaluated less for their 'wow' factor as for their usability in the teaching mix. We talked about intergration and embedding and the way in which social computing might be used on mobile devices as well as the fact that mobile devices now incorporates laptops with wireless connections.

And we closed the conference looking forward 10 years and speculating what we might do now to be sure we continue to delivery quality education by means of the new and emerging technology.

So where are we now: Mobility is simply a reality and we expect to be connected at all times on all devices. Technology, no matter how marvelous it is, would not fix bad pedagogy but it would give massive impact to good teaching practice.

At the end of the Conference we officially launched the International Association for Mobile Learning. check out more by following the links at my website.

The area continues to grow and develop and I am busier and busier working with those who prefer to go down this road - contact me via my website www.caryloliver.com

Gateway Laptops Review - Gateway Laptop History, Trend, Series And Positioning

Many longtime computer users recognize the fact that Gateway has been a major contender in the computer world for much of the personal computer's existence. Gateway was long heralded as one of the highest quality products on the market and was also highly praised for their attention to customer needs and support. In recent years, Gateway's focus has changed a little from being a custom computer builder to offering mass marketed and mass manufactured machines that in turn appeal to a greater portion of the general public. This doesn't mean, however, that they aren't worth a good looking. Gateway laptops still hold a reasonable share of the portable market. This being said, they shouldn't be discounted by people in the market for a new machine.

Gateway laptops are well designed and full featured computers that have the extra visual appeal that many look for. Designed with a sleek housing, bright colors and patterns, Gateway laptops have a satisfyingly modern feel. A generous number of USB ports on all models allow you to connect what you need without carrying additional hubs around, and the addition of a built in webcam in all but the most budget oriented models offers the ease of instant video communication wherever you are.

Gateway laptops really shine with the P series, which is their top performer, and is well equipped for whatever you prefer to throw at it as far as entertainment goes. Taking a step further is the P-FX series, which has all the extras that a gamer is sure to love. A 17" high definition wide screen, standard HDMI output for hookup straight to your HD screen, 5-in-1 media card reader, high performance graphics card and extra fast Intel Core 2 Duo processor make this series perfect for anything you have in mind. Starting at $900 and moving all the way up to the high end at $2000, this series is really competitively priced.

With mobility being stressed more and more these days, Gateway offers their solution in the form of a convertible that offers all of the features of a laptop, as well as the pen-and-paper ease of a tablet PC. The C series is really just a laptop that could operate as a tablet PC, with the addition of a rotate and flip style screen. For those looking for compact and sub-compact type PCs, you would have to look to other manufacturers, however, if you prefer the additional functionality of a point, click and draw surface, the C series does this quite nicely. Equipped with a 14" screen and weighing in at just over 6 lbs, this one is really just a full laptop in disguise. Offered in multiple configurations from $1000 to $1200

For money conscious buyers, you would check that Gateway laptops fall comfortably in the middle to middle high ranges as far as pricing goes. You might be surprised though to check that Gateway laptops only offer Intel processors and, being that Intel chips run a good chunk of change higher than their AMD counterparts, you would not be able to compare Gateway to other manufacturers that offer the option of the less expensive AMD chip. The bang for your buck factor works out pretty well though, as what you acquire for your money should satisfy most everyday computer users.

Gateway laptops offer these different series:

  • M series - S - Intel Core 2 Duo T5550, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, 15.4" WXGA Screen $900
  • M series - X - Intel Core 2 Duo T5450, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, 15.4" WXGA Screen $1100
  • M series - XL - Intel Core 2 Duo T8300, 3GB RAM, 160GB HD, 15.4" WXGA Screen $1300
  • P-172x - Intel Core 2 Duo T5550, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, 17" WXGA+ Screen $1000
  • P-172s FX - Intel Core 2 Duo T5750, 3GB RAM, 160GB HD, 17" WXGA+ Screen $1400
  • P-172x FX - Intel Core 2 Duo T8300, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, 17" WUXGA Screen $2000
  • C-141x - Intel Dual-Core T2330, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, 14" Widescreen $1000
  • C-142xl - Intel Core 2 Duo T8300, 3GB RAM, 250GB HD, 14" Widescreen $1300

Gaming Laptop Computer - Go For It!

A laptop, which includes of course a gaming laptop is also called a notebook, which is a portable computer. Unlike traditional desktop computers, laptops come with all of the computers some parts -monitor, keyboard, mouse and so on- integrated into one portable unit. Laptops have gained popularity in recent years due to their small size, light weight and enhanced performance capabilities. Years ago, if you preferred a computer that did it all, you would have to choose a desktop version. But many of today's laptops are as powerful as their desktop counterparts.

Notebook computers were always seen as "little brothers" of their desktop counterparts: great for general computing, word processing and web browsing on the go, but nowhere near powerful enough to run the same software as your desktop. Much of this perception has changed in recent years due to overwhelming advances in micro-computer technology. Notebook computers have grown more and more powerful and advanced even as their size and cost has been reduced. Today, the idea of a true gaming laptop is a feasible one, and plenty of companies have offered their units onto the marketplace as proof of this. While it may not be as convenient as gaming on a dedicated desktop computer, it is now possible to enjoy the latest computer game releases on a portable system.

Gaming laptops do have their decided advantages. Obviously, their reduced size could be a large plus for gamers. By the time you factor in a computer case, monitor, keyboard and mouse, speakers, printer and other peripherals, a standard size desktop computer system could fill up an entire desk or table surface. Laptops today have become so advanced that they could realistically be seen as desktop replacements. As everything from speakers to keyboard is incorporated into the body of a notebook computer, the space required for it in your home is comparatively minimal. In fact, a dedicated computer desk becomes largely unnecessary when talking about a system as small as a laptop; any table or surface would do.

The smaller size laptops also lends itself to their portability, which is another of their obvious advantages. There is something to be said about having the ability to use your computer in any location that you like. Laptops allow you to work and browse the web wherever you like and gaming laptops take that idea even further by allowing you to play the latest games wherever is convenient.

How To Expand Your Laptop's Battery Life?

So you bought your brand new laptop which is equipped with all the latest features like Bluetooth, Wi-if, etc. That's great! The configuration serves you more than what you need and above all the laptop looks so cute. The size of the laptop makes it so handy, the keypad comes in your favorite color and everything looks so nice. You started working on your laptop and Gosh! There is a power-cut. But your laptop keeps on working by automatically switching itself to the plugged-in battery resource. You are happy. However, you prefer to check whether the battery is full or not by pointing your cursor to the battery icon. It is showing 99%. Good! But what you need to do to keep your battery showing the same storage levels even after two years? Read further to know the solution.

Lithium-ion Battery
Most of the laptops now a day are equipped with Lithium-ion batteries. Though there are Nickel-cadmium, Nickel metal hydride, etc, after the invention of Lithium-ion battery, because of its efficiency most of the laptop manufacturers are selling it along with their respective laptops.

Why Lithium-ion battery? Because it offers high energy density, runtime, and is light in weight. To run a power-sucking laptop, a battery with high energy density is required. The runtime of a laptop battery is based on what sort of applications you run. If you run basic applications for writing, reading, copying, chatting, etc, then your laptop battery runtime would be high compared to running a complex application that has a large number crunching requirement.

The Problem
The problem with the laptop battery arises when you start using your laptop as a Desktop Replacement. In other words, regularly using the laptop for extended hours (say 10/12 hours) on AC power along with the battery plugged-in. If you are using alternatively both the AC power and battery for long hours regularly, then there are so many chances that your battery life would go down. It is not because of your alternative usage with AC power, but by the heat that acquires generated by your laptop during its operation. The life of a battery is more dependent on the temperature rather than its regular charging and discharging functions.

On an average, a laptop battery (genuine!) would offer service for 1-1.5 years even if you use it roughly without taking any precautionary measures. You could extend your battery's life by more than 2 years if you follow the following said measures.

Precautionary Measures
The only solution to extend your laptop battery's precious lifetime is to use it only when you are in need of it. Means, if you have AC power available for your power requirements and you are using laptop as your Desktop Replacement, then remove the battery from your laptop after charging it moderately (40%), wrap it in a plastic cover, and store it in a cool place. After every 3 weeks, religiously, plug-in your battery into your laptop and charge it for sometime before you switch from your AC power to your battery. For the next few hours, allow you laptop to suck power from your battery until it acquires drained of all its stored power and shuts down you laptop. Then, plug-in the AC power into your laptop, start charging your battery up to a moderate level (say 40%), switch off your laptop to remove the battery and store it in a cool place after wrapping it in a plastic cover. You need to do this religiously for every 3 weeks in order to extend your laptop battery's life considerably by 2 more years.

Summary
In summary, a laptop battery is so costly and its life so precious that we cannot ignore the precautionary measures which makes it possible to extend its lifetime by 2 more years. That means, by following the above said measures, you could use your laptop battery for about 3 years on an average. Good Luck!

Notebook Battery Life - Hints To Acquire The Most Out Of Yours

Notebook computers. At this point in the 21st century, they have become an indispensable part of many people's everyday lives. From the commuting business executive and the busy college student, we all prefer to be mobile with our computers. The big drawback of that is the fact that there is not always a plug around when you need one. A notebook computer's battery is its life-blood. Without proper care, your notebook battery could fail much earlier than anticipated. By following a few simple steps, you could expect to acquire the greatest amount of usage possible out of your notebook battery before a replacement is needed.

1. Upon purchase, charge the battery to full capacity. Whether you have purchased a new computer have purchased a new battery for your laptop, charging it fully as soon as you open the box is the best recommendation. This allows the battery to reach a full capacity before you begin to use it "unplugged". Most batteries come with a partial charge, enough to acquire you going if you absolutely had to. Giving that battery a full charge when it is brand new would assist set the charge capacity for the battery at its highest possible level.

2. Once you reach a full charge, leave the computer plugged in for at least 2 hours. This action lets the battery "rest" at a full charge for a fairly lengthy period of time. At this point, the battery is not drawing power from your wall socket to charge, and it is also not supplying any power to your system. Letting your battery rest for a time after a full charge assists to "lock-in" that full charge capacity.

3. Unplug the computer and drain the battery. It might sound silly, but now that you have gotten that battery to a full charge, you need to drain the power almost completely. Again, this would assist determine the charge capacity of the battery. Leave your computer unplugged and use it until you acquire a warning telling you that the battery is almost completely discharge. Then save whatever you are working on and power the computer down. Plug back into the wall socket for a fresh charge. Then use the computer at your leisure.

If you follow these steps about once a month, your notebook battery should last a nice long while. Not to say that you would never have to replace it, but at least it would be a long time before you need to.

Apple's Market Lookout

Steve Jobs recently remarked that in its first month of operations the iTunes applications store had over $30 million in sales for its first month. Jobs predicted that the apps store would translate into at least $360 million annual increase in gross revenues for the company. Jobs went on to say that the Apple would see $500 million and possibly $1 billion in revenue from the online store soon.

The iPhone's revenue applications keep increasing. It's predicted that in addition to increased revenues, the apps store would increase sales of iPhones and other wireless devices like the iPod Touch.

In addition to the iPhone Apple is rumored to be releasing a new power book/air hybrid laptop computer. Recent reports state that apple notified Best Buy that shipments of Power Book laptops would be decreasing over the coming weeks and to structure inventory accordingly. Additionally, Apple has increased orders of LCD laptop computer screens from suppliers, and photos have been leaked showing what appear to be aluminum Mac book casings.

The anticipated release in time for the year end holidays would put Apple computers along with both iPhones and iPods at the top of many wish lists. It is expected that both the iPhone and Apple computers would see an increased presence and market share world wide

Long term it is expected that Apple TV, last years underperforming product line, would take hold and become as popular as Apple's other products. As entertainment in the home becomes more centralized with the convergence of television, movies, music, computers and the internet, Apple TV both in its current and future forms would serve as the hub to bring all these aspects together. Additionally the iTunes movie and tv stores would increase dramatically.

Apple's brand differentiation continues to be one of the strongest and most recognizable in the world. The persona of top of the line and stylistic products makes it one of the premier companies in the electronics industry.

New products, with new developing and almost monopolistic revenue streams points to continued growth, even in today's lackluster economy. Apple has positioned itself to outperform most of its competitors in Growth and profit margin explaining its obviously high P/E of more than double many of its competitors.

Broadband - Who Requires Wires?

Years ago, a wireless was a radio. Now, having a wireless doesn't mean you sit around listening to a box and trying to imagine pictures. It means wireless internet.

There are two types of wireless connections for your home. The first is Wireless Networking. This is a type of LAN which doesn't require the use of hubs to connect everyone to the same network. It's useful in houses where there's more than one desktop PC, and perhaps a laptop or two as well, as you do not need wires trailing all over the place. Wireless networking works by having a single central router that receives the signal from the telephone line and transmits a signal which is picked up by the closest wireless devices like your home computers.

In a Wireless network (WiFi) the computers within it could communicate with each other, and a password is set to prevent outside connection and interference. Firewalls are essential, and fortunately they are standard with most wireless routers. A network card fitted to every computer within the network is necessary too, and again, they are usually standard in most newer PC's and laptops. If one PC in your house doesn't have a network card, it could still be connected to the WiFi network by means of cables.

Wireless broadband could be seen as an extension of standard broadband. The provider sets up your regular service through your phone line, but also sets you up for access at special WiFi points outside the home. alike idea to an internet caf, except you could use your own laptop and settings, and you could check them in places like motorway service stations, airports, train stations, and any other places that travellers frequent.

Wireless broadband could be either paid for monthly along with your standard tariff, or used on a pay-as-you-go basis for periods of up to an hour. It all depends on how much you travel, and how frequently you would use the service.

Wireless broadband and wireless networking are slowly becoming more widely available as more providers catch onto the idea. Cheap broadband packages now offer a wireless option for around 10 - 15 per month.

The Development Of Thermal To Plain Paper Fax Machines

About fifteen years ago, businesses were leasing thermal fax machines that were priced at $1,500.00 to $2,500.00. Now you could buy a plain paper fax machine for under $150.00. Times sure have changed.

Thermal fax machines were the ones with the long roll of paper and each fax would be cut to the size that is transmitted. You could make some cool banners with those things because you could set them to not cut and it would continue to spit out the paper! They were pretty much bullet proof. The major problem was the paper. It would curl and you had a hard time working with it. If it was exposed to the sun or heat it would turn a dark black and all of the information was lost. They were really economical compared to laser or ink jet fax machines. The only supply that you were required to purchase was rolls of paper.

At the time of transformation most people didnt rush out and buy plain paper faxes. They waited until either there fax machines went on the blink or the prices came down quite a bit. Up until five years ago you could still check a few still chugging away but now I believe they have completely vanished.

Plain paper faxes now have saturated the market and the prices have dropped so low that anyone could afford one. With rebates you may even acquire one for free. The only problem might be that you may not be able to afford the supplies that go into them. Laser, inkjet, and thermal transfer rolls are the options that you have. The cost per page varies but believe me when I say that the money is not in selling machines, it is in selling supplies. You could shop smart though and look at the cost per page. This is the price of the toner or supply divided by the supply yield. Spending a little more on the machine for a lower CPP could save you a bundle of money.

Some of the younger people that read this probably cant even imagine ever using thermal roll fax machines but remember, times change and they change fast.
What does the future hold for the fax machine of the future? Technology doesnt stand still, so lets wait and see!

Lenovo ThinkPad X300 Review - Finest Of Its Class

The ambitions of Lenovo are clear, create the best ultraportable in the market. Building on the prestigious ThinkPad family, the X300 is an impressive computer which does not compromise ultraportable and functionalities.

Lenovo X300 versus MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is definitively a beautiful design (some would say sexy) and is ultra thin and light. In order to look that way, the Mac book has made some sacrifices in ways of functionalities, battery life and power. X 300 has a more conventional (old fashion) look, thicker and a bit heavier but it gains in functionality, power, has a DVD burner and yet has the dimensions and weight of an ultraportable. To complete the comparison The MacBook Air is beautiful extra light, trendy and would satisfy light users; the X300 looks conventional, is powerful and functional and would satisfy medium and some heavy users.

ThinkPad style

At first look, you could see a lot of similarities from previous generation of ThinkPads. The lines are straight (most competitors have rounded their laptops) and the min-joystick is still there. The keyboard has a the usual soft touch and comes with a retro light if needed. The finish is clean, robust, only the screen maybe sensitive to scratches.

Inside the X300

The processor used for the X300 laptop is new, it is a Core two duo L7100 this processor has an ultra compact chip alike to MacBook Air; it has a speed of 1.2 GHz and belong to the family of the Intel-based low voltage processors. The L7100 runs at 800 MHz and has 4 Mo of cash memory. This laptop comes with 2 GB of RAM which is enough to run Vista. That ThinkPad works really well in most situations and unless you are a graphic artist, big database user or heaver gamer, you would be really happy with its performances.

Lenovo X300 equipment

Despite its small size, The X300 focuses on maximum integration. No wasted space here, it comes with a DVD burner, you would also check three USB and one Ethernet connection. The wireless is equally well represented with Bluetooth 2.0 WiFi, 802.11 and 3G HSDPA. This one is also in charge of the video output for VGA.

Screen for professional

With a 13.3 inches the screen is big enough to view wide spreadsheet like Excel, it is built up with a high quality definition of 1440 by 900 pixels. The graphic card is the classic Intel GMA X3100 with 368 Mo of shared memory.

Disappointing autonomy

During a testing the laptop battery never lasted more than 2 hours and 30 minutes, which is a bit disappointing with the SSD, LED screen and low-voltage processor. After we "played" with the numerous internal management tools we were able to extend the autonomy to 4 hours with light use like Word. Additionally, the DVD could be replaced by an additional 3 cell battery.

Conclusion

All in all, a ThinkPad X300 is a wonderful ultraportable, light, compact and robust. Professional travelers would be really happy to use that notebook. There is a price for excellence and that price is $3,000. Final note, the X300 comes with three years manufacturer warranty.

Unless You Backup Your Laptop Computer Data, You're Lost!

I read yesterday an article of Ezinearticles speaking about a man whose hard disc had crashed.

He directly contacted a data recovery company, and has to decided to make a deal with the first arrival. This guy entrusted its hard disk to this company and they ensured to him that its data would be recovered, for 1500$ only...

The agreed day it comes to recover its hard disk and it is announced to him that recovery failed, it was analyzed by a specialist but for an unknown reason, that failed.

It found another specialist and this one announces to him that the analysis of its disc was not made in clean room(remember hard disks are extremely fragile and sensitive to any kind of dust, air, or environmental contamination).

Its disc was contaminated and that produced a head crash which irremediably destroyed the magnetic coating which contained the data.

Its disc was definitively lost, terrifying not? That could have arrived to you too, are you ready? Are you protected?

There are many companies that offer data recovery services, but this story shows that only the reputed companies could make effective data recovery.

Taking into consideration all that my opinion is that the most economic solution in money, time and emotions is to make regular backup, you could done a weekly full backup, or daily backup with the incremental or differential backup, so when a disaster arrives you just have to resume your work with your last backup, et voila!

One of the biggest of these issues is durability. Many ultra portable laptops could tend towards the flimsy side, requiring them to be carefully packed and babied at all times. Instead, you prefer to strike a compromise between size and durability. Look for laptops with strong hinges and frames that would stand up to the rigors of travel.

Secondly, you need to consider what kind of performance you need from your travel laptop. If you are trying to save weight, you are not going to be able to acquire desktop level performance. Instead, you need to decide which features are most significant to you. If you could do without an optical drive, dedicated 3D graphics, and other high end features, you could save quite a bit of size and weight.

Another large issue with laptops is connectivity. For today's mobile computing needs, there are many options to consider. Pretty much all laptops these days come with the essential wi-fi connectivity, but there are some other options you need to think about. would you need to dial in with a modem? Ethernet? Do you need mobile, nationwide broadband? be sure that your laptop of option comes with the options you need.

In addition to this, you need to think about usability. Do you need a full size keyboard, or could you deal with a compact one? What about screen size and resolution? Need a tablet PC? These types of issues could make or break the usability of your laptop, so acquiring them worked out ahead of time is critical. If you type a lot, you would most definitely need a full sized keyboard. If you are doing a lot of graphics work, high screen resolution is key to productivity. Know what you need, and do not compromise.

Battery life is also a large issue for travelers. Obviously, the longer the better, but keep in mind that a larger battery means more weight. Many laptops would allow you to purchase different sizes of batteries, for different needs. This could assist you check the perfect compromise.

Overall, choosing a travel laptop doesn't have to be too complicated. Simply identify your needs, do your homework, and you are sure to walk away with a laptop that would prove to be a perfect travel companion.

Desktop Renewal, Laptop Reviews, Advices And Analysis

As a greater portion of computer users are realizing the digital freedom that is available with Wi-Fi hot spots and go-anywhere internet, there has been an increasing trend toward mobile computing. As is always the case for serious users though, there is the question: desktop or laptop? It has long been true that the desktop machine market has had quite a lead on the mobile world as far as performance goes.

The ever present struggle was whether or not you could sacrifice the performance you prefer for the mobility you need. In the last few years though, chip manufacturers have progressed leaps and bounds in creating faster, smaller, cooler running and more power efficient chips; all at a fraction of the cost. Today's laptops are now able to achieve performance that is comparable to or even equal to many desktops. These desktop replacements allow their users to handle whatever their computing needs are, on the fly no less.

Here are some of the best desktop replacement solutions available currently:

HP Pavilion HDX

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T8100
Display Size (inches): 20.1
Wide Screen: Yes
Total HD Size (GB): 240
Min. Weight (lbs.): 15.5
Price (at time of review): $3000

This desktop replacement is a real heavy hitter. The 20.1" screen allows you to stay productive without sacrificing mobility. Weighing in at 15.5 pounds, this monster belongs more on a desk than on your lap but it is still light enough to carry with you. This model also offers attractive extras like a Blu-ray DVD player and full 1080p HD display.

Dell XPS M1730

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T8300
Display Size (inches): 17
Wide Screen: Yes
Total HD Size (GB): 160
Min. Weight (lbs.): 10.6
Price (at time of review): $2500

A little more on the medium range, the M1730 is well equipped for its price range, but not as big as the full blown Desktop replacements. This model also comes with the option of the NVIDIA Geforce 8800M SLI graphics card, which makes this a real contender in the gaming and video processing market.

Gateway P-172X FX

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T8300
Display Size (inches): 17
Wide Screen: Yes
Total HD Size (GB): 320
Min. Weight (lbs.): 9.6
Price (at time of review): $2000

Even though this is the cheapest and lightest desktop replacement of the bunch, it packs the meanest over-all punch. With 4 GB of RAM and the powerful Core 2 Duo chip (impressive 3MB L2 cache), this is one of the most well suited laptops for unplugging and taking on the road without losing your performance edge.

With so many options to look at, desktop replacement shoppers would prefer to keep a few key things in mind before they head out to the store (or to their favorite internet dealer). Try to acquire an idea of the most weight you would be willing to carry around with you. A good bench mark is to realize that a gallon of water weighs 8.33 lbs so ask yourself if you would be willing to carry that much weight or more. Also remember that though these laptops come close to performing on par with many desktop models, they would not out perform most high end desktops, so think about the most demanding things you prefer to do with your desktop replacement and take into consideration whether it would be able to perform your required tasks.

Paying for power is never cheap but the benefits of mobility could be invaluable. Who knows what the near future holds for desktop replacements but for now, be assured that the technology you require is more than available and really affordable.
